When Italy lined up for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, they did so as reigning world champions. Expectations were enormous, and with Puma as the kit manufacturer, the Azzurri received a classic blue home football shirt with golden details and a button collar – a shirt that today stands as an icon from a dramatic summer.

The team was packed with experienced stars from the 2006 triumph. Gianluigi Buffon still stood in goal, Fabio Cannavaro led the defence, and the midfield included names like Andrea Pirlo, Daniele De Rossi, and Gennaro Gattuso. The attack was led by players such as Di Natale and Iaquinta, but the magic was absent this time.

The tournament became a nightmare for Italy. Draws against Paraguay and New Zealand, as well as a defeat to Slovakia, meant an exit in the group stage – one of the biggest disappointments in Italian football history.
