It was a national team jersey that was remembered for far more than the results on the pitch. When Denmark travelled to the World Cup in Qatar in 2022, Hummel and DBU chose an unusually subdued expression, where both the logo and the DBU emblem almost disappeared into the red jersey.

The design was deliberate. Hummel did not want their logo to be prominent during a World Cup surrounded by criticism of Qatar's treatment of migrant workers. Denmark therefore got one of the most talked-about jerseys of the finals, even before the first match was played.

On the pitch, however, the World Cup was a great disappointment. Denmark had come to Qatar after the semi-finals at Euro 2020 and a superb World Cup qualification, but finished last in the group after a draw against Tunisia and defeats to France and Australia.

The long-sleeved version makes this edition extra interesting – a significant national team jersey from a World Cup where the story off the pitch came to take up at least as much space as the football.
