When Hummel returned to the national team in 2016 after 12 years with Adidas, Denmark also had to recover from the painful playoff exit against Sweden and the missed European Championship. The new red football shirt was therefore launched under the narrative of Holger Danske – the giant who, according to legend, awakens when Denmark needs him.

On the back is not Poulsen, but Yurary. Yussuf Poulsen has used his middle name on the back throughout his national team career, and number 20 was also his national team number in 2016-17. This makes the print historically accurate for the model.

This shirt belongs to the beginning of Åge Hareide's project. Denmark had missed both the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 European Championship, but in this shirt, the qualification for Russia 2018 began. A year later, the work culminated on a wet evening in Dublin, where Denmark won 5-1 and booked their World Cup ticket. Poulsen was part of the team that went from Danish football downturn to the World Cup in a very short time.

Hummel embedded history directly into the fabric: the pattern was inspired by a Viking chainmail, Holger Danske was included in the design, and small Dannebrog details emphasized the return to a collaboration that, for many Danes, is still associated with the national team's classic Hummel years.
