FOOTBALL MEMORIES
Hummel hid history in the details. The blue elements at the neck and sleeves were a nod to the jerseys from the 1986 World Cup and the 1992 European Championship, while the discrete pattern in the fabric drew inspiration from the uniforms of the Royal Life Guards. The players themselves had input on the design before the jersey was launched shortly before the World Cup.
In Russia, Denmark started with a 1-0 win over Peru with Yussuf Poulsen's goal. Christian Eriksen scored in the 1-1 draw against Australia, and a 0-0 draw against the eventual world champions France sent the Danes undefeated from the group stage.
The Round of 16 match against Croatia became one of those evenings when all of Denmark once again sat in front of their screens. Mathias "Zanka" Jørgensen scored in the very first minute, Mario Mandžukić equalized shortly after, and Kasper Schmeichel saved Luka Modrić's penalty in extra time. The penalty shootout became the end of the road against a Croatian team that later reached the World Cup final.
This makes the 2018 jersey a reminder of Denmark's return to the World Cup stage – six years after the last major tournament and with a generation that once again had Danes following the national team through an entire summer.
