Carter arrived in Minnesota in 1990 and became one of the players who defined the Vikings throughout the 90s. When Randy Moss arrived in 1998, Minnesota got something special: the young receiver who could break open a defense in one play, and Carter, who had made precision and sure hands his trademark.

In 2000, the Vikings were again close to the Super Bowl. Daunte Culpepper had taken over as quarterback, Carter caught 96 passes for 1,274 yards and nine touchdowns, while Moss accounted for 1,437 yards and 15 touchdowns.
