Germany 2020/21 away kit

For the first time, Germany went almost completely black. Adidas virtually removed all contrast from the classic national team jersey, making the logo, the three stripes, and the German federation crest tone-on-tone with the dark jersey. Only the small black-red-gold details on the sleeves revealed the national team's colours.

The jersey was originally designed for Euro 2020, but the pandemic postponed the tournament until the summer of 2021. Thus, the black design also became the jersey for Joachim Löw's last tournament after 15 years as German national team coach.

Germany advanced from a brutal group with France, Portugal, and Hungary before facing England at Wembley in the round of 16. They lost 0-2, marking the end of an era that had included the World Cup triumph in Brazil in 2014.

The design itself was unusually understated for Die Mannschaft. Adidas worked with black and carbon, while the DFB logo, Adidas logo, and shoulder stripes almost disappear into the jersey. The German colours are instead hidden as details around the sleeve cuffs and in the neck.
