Spain football jersey / skateboard 2014 Raúl Navarro #5

World Cup fever and skateboarding culture collided in 2014. Leading up to the finals in Brazil, Adidas Skateboarding had six of its skaters interpret football jerseys from their home countries. Spaniard Raúl Navarro got number 5, Western Edition on the chest – and a jersey based on Spain's World Champion look.

FOOTBALL MEMORIES

Skate Copa was not regular national team merchandise. Adidas gathered six skaters – including Mark Gonzales, Lucas Puig, and Rodrigo TX – and connected each of them with their home country and board sponsor. Navarro represented Spain together with the San Francisco brand Western Edition.

Navarro himself explained that his model was based on the Spanish jersey from the 2010 World Cup triumph. Western Edition's W and trumpet were redesigned into a football-like crest, while his last name was placed on the back. The result looks like a Spanish national team jersey from a distance, but tells a completely different story up close.

The collection was launched in the spring of 2014 as Adidas' tribute to both football culture and the upcoming World Cup. This makes this football jersey an interesting piece of crossover history from a period when the football jersey truly began to move outside the stadium and into streetwear.
